Well Prepped Life — Service
Cooking with Limited Mobility in the Bay Area
Limited mobility changes your relationship with the kitchen in ways that are easy to underestimate until they become impossible to ignore. Standing at the counter for twenty minutes causes pain. Reaching into a low cabinet is a hazard. Carrying a pot from the stove to the sink is not safe when your grip is unreliable. The physical demands of cooking are significant even for people without mobility limitations — for those managing arthritis, Parkinson's, post-stroke effects, spinal conditions, or age-related decline, those demands can make the kitchen feel inaccessible. Well Prepped Life works with adults across the Bay Area who have limited mobility in two ways: we provide weekly in-home meal prep so they have nutritious meals without cooking, and we offer adaptive cooking instruction and kitchen assessment for clients who want to regain or maintain cooking independence.
In-Home Meal Prep for Mobility-Limited Adults
The most direct solution when cooking has become genuinely difficult is to have a professional cook for you. Our weekly meal prep service sends a chef to your home to prepare a full week of meals in your own kitchen. Seven to ten complete dishes are cooked, portioned, labeled, and organized in your refrigerator and freezer in a single three-to-four-hour session. Every meal is built around your dietary needs — including any medical dietary requirements related to your mobility condition or underlying health issues. You eat real, fresh, home-cooked food without spending an hour on your feet every day.
Adaptive Cooking Instruction
For clients who want to cook more independently despite limited mobility, we offer one-on-one adaptive cooking instruction tailored to your specific limitations. Sessions focus on practical techniques: seated cooking methods, using lightweight tools, repositioning prep tasks to reduce reaching and standing, selecting appliances that reduce physical demand, and sequencing tasks to minimize fatigue. Instruction is adapted to your condition — the techniques that work for someone managing early Parkinson's are different from those suited to someone with bilateral knee replacements or a spinal cord injury.
Kitchen Assessment and Adaptive Tools
A kitchen that was not designed with limited mobility in mind can be made meaningfully safer and more accessible with targeted modifications and the right equipment. We offer kitchen assessments that identify specific hazards and barriers, and provide concrete recommendations for adaptive tools — ergonomic knives with large handles, rocker cutters, non-slip mats, lightweight cookware, jar openers, one-handed cutting boards — and simple rearrangements that reduce the physical demands of cooking. These recommendations are practical and specific to your kitchen layout and your physical situation.
Conditions We Work With
We work with adults managing a wide range of conditions that affect mobility: arthritis (both rheumatoid and osteoarthritis), Parkinson's disease, MS, ALS, stroke, spinal cord injuries, hip and knee replacements, COPD with fatigue, and general age-related decline in strength and balance. Each condition creates a distinct set of challenges in the kitchen, and we approach each client's situation individually rather than applying a generic mobility-limitation template.
