Well Prepped Life — San Francisco, CA
Senior Meal Prep Services in San Francisco, CA
San Francisco is a different kind of place to cook in. The kitchens are smaller, the parking is harder, the produce is shaped by which side of Twin Peaks you live on, and the health systems clients are coming from — UCSF, CPMC's Davies and Mission Bay campuses, Saint Francis Memorial, Kaiser SF — each have their own discharge rhythms. We cook in the foggy avenues of the Sunset and Richmond, the Edwardians of Pacific Heights, the family kitchens of the Mission, and the steep hillside flats of Bernal Heights and Glen Park. Mountain View HQ to most SF neighborhoods is 50–70 minutes; we route prep days carefully and sometimes pair city visits.
Cooking for the Microclimates
There is a real practical difference between cooking for a Sunset client and a Mission client, and we treat it that way. Out in the fog belt — the Sunset, the Richmond, parts of the Outer Mission — winter days do not really get warm, and our menus lean into braises, soups, congee, and slow-cooked beans that make a foggy kitchen feel different. Tomatoes from the Sunset corner store are usually disappointing in February, so we shop our way: Andronico's on Irving, the Sunday farmers' market at Stonestown, or a swing through the Inner Sunset on the way in. On the warmer side of town — Bernal Heights, Glen Park, the Mission — we lean lighter and use the produce on Mission Street and at Bi-Rite. Pacific Heights and the Marina sit in between. None of this is precious; it just means the menu we cook in your kitchen is the menu that fits the kitchen and the weather we cooked it in.
A Sunset Engagement
A 79-year-old in the Outer Sunset, a retired SFUSD teacher with COPD, came to us after a CPMC admission for pneumonia. Her appetite had cratered, she had lost twelve pounds, and her daughter — who lives in the East Bay and was driving over twice a week — was worn out. We took over a Thursday cook. Her menu rebuilt around dense, easy-to-eat food: chicken and rice congee with ginger, miso-glazed cod, oxtail soup made on a slow Wednesday afternoon, and a banana-and-peanut-butter overnight oats she could manage on the mornings she felt short of breath. Six weeks in she had recovered most of the weight; her daughter's drives shifted from emergency cooking runs to actual visits.

Services and Hospital Coordination
We provide weekly or bi-weekly in-home meal prep — seven to ten meals cooked in your kitchen — plus the specialty work most San Francisco clients arrive needing: cardiac and CHF menus tightly controlled for sodium and saturated fat, diabetic meal prep with carb counts on every lid, renal-aware planning coordinated with a nephrologist, anti-inflammatory cooking for autoimmune and chronic-pain clients, texture-modified meals (often coming out of UCSF or CPMC speech-language path consults), and post-surgical recovery cooking. We coordinate directly with care teams at UCSF, CPMC Davies, CPMC Mission Bay, Saint Francis Memorial, and Kaiser San Francisco when discharge instructions warrant it.
Neighborhoods, Parking, and Logistics
Our regular SF territory includes the Sunset, the Richmond, Pacific Heights, the Mission, Bernal Heights, Glen Park, Noe Valley, and the Excelsior, with occasional work in North Beach, Russian Hill, Potrero Hill, and the Castro. The honest geography note: we are based in Mountain View, so SF is at the far edge of our radius. Drive time is real, parking enforcement is real, and street cleaning matters. We tend to favor mid-morning starts to avoid the worst of the commute in both directions, and we plan around your block's street-cleaning day. If your building has a permit-only zone, a garage, or a loading area, tell us during the assessment and we will plan for it. Same goes for buildings with a tight elevator — we bring our equipment in two trips rather than blocking the lobby.
Getting Started
Every engagement begins with a free in-home Kitchen and Nutrition Assessment, booked at /book or by phone at (415) 971-3464. We come to your kitchen, meet whoever is involved in care decisions, look at any discharge paperwork or dietitian guidance, and walk through what a sustainable weekly rhythm would look like in your specific space — including the storage realities of a city kitchen. There is no obligation. If we are a fit, you will have a written plan and transparent pricing within a few days. Most of our SF clients are referred by family in the South Bay, by geriatric care managers in the city, or by hospital case managers — we are happy to talk with those professionals directly when it shortens the process.
Senior Resources Near You in San Francisco
San Francisco's senior community is well-served by organizations like On Lok Lifeways and Self-Help for the Elderly for day programs and case management — but in-home meal prep remains a gap. After a stay at UCSF Medical Center or St. Mary's, the ride home to a Richmond District apartment or a Sunset neighborhood flat often means no food in the house and a family scrambling to figure out a cardiac or renal diet. We step in before the discharge happens and make sure the kitchen is stocked and ready.

Yes — post-discharge nutrition from UCSF or St. Mary's Medical Center is one of our most common requests. We prepare meals aligned with discharge dietary guidelines and serve all San Francisco neighborhoods including the Sunset, Richmond, Noe Valley, Pacific Heights, and Bernal Heights.
Small kitchens are no problem — we have worked in compact Richmond District flats, Noe Valley apartments, and tightly arranged Sunset homes for years. We adapt our workflow and equipment to whatever kitchen you have.
Medicare does not cover general in-home meal prep. Some Medicare Advantage plans cover short-term medically tailored meals after a hospital discharge, but ongoing weekly meal prep is not a covered benefit. Most families in San Francisco who hire Well Prepped Life spend less per month than a single day in a skilled nursing facility.
Pricing depends on the schedule — weekly in-home meal prep, delivery-only, or a one-time kitchen setup. Every client situation is different. Call (415) 971-3464 for a free 60-minute kitchen assessment and we'll walk you through the numbers for your parent's situation in San Francisco.
Diabetic, renal (kidney), heart-healthy, low-sodium, dysphagia-safe (pureed or soft-textured), anti-inflammatory, gluten-free, and dementia-friendly. Meals are cooked fresh from scratch by a ServSafe-certified chef — no pre-portioned substitutions.
We typically have availability within the week. Book a free 60-minute kitchen assessment and the first meal prep session is usually scheduled within 7–10 days.
Meal delivery services ship portioned, pre-made meals from a central kitchen — one menu for everyone. Well Prepped Life sends a ServSafe-certified chef to your parent's home in San Francisco to cook fresh, tailored to their exact medical diet. Nothing frozen, nothing generic.
