Well Prepped Life — Service
Personal Chef for Seniors and Disabled Adults in Palo Alto
Palo Alto kitchens I work in tend to share a few things: a Stanford connection somewhere in the household's medical history (PCP, cardiologist, oncologist, hospital), an adult child working in tech who's smart enough to read the discharge sheet but doesn't have time to execute on it weekly, and a parent who's lived in the same Eichler or Craftsman since the late 1970s and isn't moving. The medical specificity is high — Stanford dietitians write tight numbers. The cooking has to match. I'm Justine Sanidad, ServSafe-certified, based eight minutes north in Mountain View at 914 Rich Avenue. Most of my Palo Alto clients are inside a 12-minute drive.
What a Cook Visit Produces in a Palo Alto Kitchen
Three to four hours, my own knives and thermometer, your kitchen. I pre-shop in the morning — Country Sun on California Avenue, Mollie Stone's, Trader Joe's, sometimes Whole Foods on Homer for specific items. 10–14 portioned single servings out, labeled by date, dish, and reheat in 18-point type. Kitchen reset. Same-day text update to the family if you want one. Cadence: weekly is standard.
A Recent Old Palo Alto Client — Post-Kidney-Transplant
62-year-old client, kidney transplant at Stanford four months prior, discharged with a tight diet from the Stanford transplant nutrition team — high-protein for healing, neutropenic precautions for the first 90 days because of the immunosuppression, fluid awareness, careful potassium and phosphorus monitoring as the new kidney came online, and an explicit ban on certain foods (raw sprouts, soft cheeses, deli meats, undercooked anything). His wife had taken a leave from her job at Genentech to manage the recovery and was burning out. We started twice-weekly at the $849 tier. Strict food-safety protocol — every protein verified to internal-temp targets with my thermometer, no soft cheeses or unpasteurized anything in the kitchen during my visits, all produce washed under running water and dried. Menu was high-protein (chicken thighs, salmon, eggs, lentils), moderate carb, careful with the potassium load (boil-and-drain technique on potatoes when needed). At month four his transplant team cleared him off the strict neutropenic protocol, we dropped to weekly at $549. His wife went back to work week ten.
Stanford and El Camino Discharge Coordination
Most Palo Alto senior households I work with come through one of three paths: a Stanford Hospital discharge (heart, oncology, transplant, neuro), an El Camino Hospital Mountain View discharge (general med-surg, cardiac, ortho), or a Stanford clinic referral where the dietitian has already set the targets and the family needs execution. I work directly from those documents. Stanford's transplant nutrition team and oncology RDs write some of the tightest numbers in the region; the meals coming out of my kitchen have to match them, every visit. I don't claim to be the dietitian — they own the targets — but I'm the one cooking inside them every week.
Pricing
$349/week — single visit, one diet, 10 portioned meals. $549/week — overlapping diets or two-person household. $849/week — twice-weekly visits, used heavily for Stanford post-discharge windows. Plus groceries at cost. See [pricing](/pricing) for the breakdown. Travel from Mountain View to any Palo Alto neighborhood is folded into the standard rate.

What clients are saying
“Great- very adaptable!”
“After my dad's stroke, I was flying in from Denver every few weeks trying to figure out meals. He needs soft foods now and he's diabetic. I had no idea who to trust or where to start. I found Justine after weeks of dead ends. She came to the house for a consultation first, which immediately put my dad at ease. After every single visit she sends me a quick note: what she cooked, how he seemed, anything she noticed. He's been eating better than he has in years, and for the first time since his diagnosis I'm not panicking every time I board a plane home. I finally feel like he's taken care of.”
Frequently Asked Questions
Medicare does not cover general in-home meal prep or personal chef services. Some Medicare Advantage plans cover short-term medically tailored meals after a hospital discharge. Most families spend less per month on Well Prepped Life than a single day in a skilled nursing facility.
